Epoxy Resin Production Process

Bisphenol A epoxy resin can be produced through either a one-step or two-step process, each with its own advantages in terms of reaction conditions and product molecular weight. The one-step process involves directly polycondensing bisphenol A with epichlorohydrin under alkaline conditions to produce epoxy resin. This method is commonly used for the synthesis of low- and medium-molecular-weight epoxy resins. The two-step process, on the other hand, involves an addition reaction between bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin in the presence of a catalyst to produce a diphenolyl propane chlorohydrin intermediate. This intermediate is then subjected to a ring-closure reaction under alkaline conditions to produce the epoxy resin.
